Mihai Rotaru, in his capacity of Deputy Head of Legal Division, is the leader of the Legal Consultancy Department of Banca Transilvania, and, also, Vice-president of the Romanian Association of Banking and Financial Legal Advisors.

Mihai’s experience in the banking system began in 2006, starting with investigating financial frauds, continuing in 2012 with the banking as usual activity while, also, gaining prestige being in the first line of experts in many well-known M&A projects from the national market, such as Millennium Bank – OTP Bank, Volksbank – Banca Transilvania, Bancpost – Banca Transilvania, and, also, being involved in the most significant transactions with current and nonperforming loan portfolios of the last years.

Considering his academic background, Mihai constructively combined his gate-keeper role – the prevention attitude specific for fighting bank frauds and his primary military professional formation – with a business-oriented mindset resulted from his banking experience and, also from the skills gained during the MBA program which he graduated at the Maastricht School of Management.

Professionally, Mihai has been actively involved in the activity of the Romanian Banks’ Association as a member of the Legal Committee, receiving in 2018 a distinction for his contribution to the Romanian banking industry.

For Mihai, Legal work is teamwork. As leader of his team, Mihai has equally promoted professional excellence and the development of an independent and creative legal mindset. He has led his team towards a reinvention of the Legal job by promoting modern technology adoption and diversification of personal and professional skills and styles.

In 2019 Mihai was included by The Legal 500 in the prestigious top GCPowerlist amongst the most competent and innovative actors from the national and regional legal environment, for contributions that increased the synergy and quality of the professional activity in his organization.

Within the Romanian Association of Banking and Financial Legal Advisors where he has been Vice-President starting with 2019, Mihai has set out to create a center of professional excellency and innovation for all generations of legal advisors, a legal-financial education center for everyone interested and, also, a debate environment, thus tending to become a relevant opinion maker for the national Legal environment.
